The British Legion was formed on Sunday 15 May 1921 by the amalgamation of
(1) The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers (1916).
(2) The British National Federation of Discharged and Demobilised Sailors and Soldiers (1917).
(3) The Comrades of The Great War (1917).
(4) The Officers' Association (1920).
In 1971 the Queen granted on their 50th anniversary the prefix "Royal"
